為了健康而種的有機金針花
高山有機金針來自花蓮六十石山的德森有機農場,農場主人黃德森是六十石山第一個種植有機金針的有機農友。黃德森自1998年開始,就把屋旁兩甲地的金針用有機無農藥的方式栽種,並且以自然、不加任何化學添加物的方式烘乾金針花。不過金針乾的收入根本不敷雇工除草的工資,他坦承:「早期其實是用民宿的收入來養這片有機田,但我至少賺到健康。」「健康無價」對苦於嚴重過敏、求醫無門的黃先生而言,是非常深刻的體驗。飽受過敏之苦的他,觀察到每次噴農藥或加工做金針乾之後,過敏就會更嚴重,因此他下定決心不再噴農藥,不摻硫加工。
鑽研兩年 成就不摻硫的安心金針
不摻硫,如何讓金針不會壞掉?黃德森足足花了兩年才找到答案。1998年有機金針開始收成時,他天天做實驗、寫紀錄;有的日曬幾小時後捧進來烘乾;有的直接進爐子烘乾;有的烘、曬交替。他發現日曬的會變味,因為酵素會繼續作用。排除日曬的方法,接著研究烘烤的溫度與溼度,如何讓金針內、外都夠乾燥卻不會太過火而脆裂?這個問題一直研究到2000年秋天的那批收成才試驗成功。
做有機 常保家鄉青山綠水
現在黃德森不但在他的金針產銷班鼓勵班員改做有機,還把做有機金針的生產與加工技術,分享給山頭另一邊的原住民,因為他希望大家過得更健康快樂,家鄉也能常保青山綠水啊!

Product Story: Organic Daylily Flowers Grown for Health
The high-mountain organic daylily flowers come from the Deson Organic Farm on Hualien's Sixty Stone Mountain (Liushishishan). The farm owner, Huang De-Sen, was the first organic farmer on Sixty Stone Mountain to grow organic daylilies. Since 1998, Mr. Huang has cultivated two acres of daylily flowers near his house using organic, pesticide-free methods, and dries the flowers naturally, without any chemical additives.
However, the income from the dried daylilies was not enough to cover the wages for weeding labor. He admitted: "In the early days, I essentially used the income from the guesthouse (Air B&B) to support this organic field, but at least I gained my health." "Health is priceless" is a deeply profound experience for Mr. Huang, who suffered from severe allergies and found no cure through conventional medicine. Suffering from allergies, he observed that his symptoms worsened every time he sprayed pesticides or processed the daylilies into dried flowers. He therefore resolved to stop spraying pesticides and stop adding sulfur during processing.
Two Years of Research Lead to Safe, Sulfur-Free Daylilies
Without adding sulfur, how could he prevent the daylilies from spoiling? Mr. Huang spent two full years finding the answer. When the organic daylilies began harvesting in 1998, he conducted experiments and kept records daily: some were sun-dried for a few hours before being brought in for baking; some were placed directly into the oven; and some alternated between baking and sun-drying. He discovered that sun-dried ones changed flavor because the enzymes continued to act.
Excluding sun-drying, he then focused on researching the ideal baking temperature and humidity—how to ensure the daylilies were dry enough both inside and out without becoming too brittle and cracking. This problem was finally solved with the successful batch harvest in the autumn of 2000.
Committing to Organic Farming: Preserving the Homeland's Green Mountains and Clear Waters
Today, Mr. Huang not only encourages members of his daylily production and marketing cooperative to switch to organic methods but also shares his production and processing techniques for organic daylilies with the indigenous people on the other side of the mountain. This is because he hopes everyone can live a healthier and happier life, and that their homeland can forever preserve its green mountains and clear waters!
