High-Grade Moto Konbu from Hokkaido
Konbu, commonly known as kelp, is nurtured in the ocean. The long, resilient, and thick leaves of konbu offer a clean fragrance and rich sea flavor, whether used for making broth or stewing. There are many types of konbu, but the most commonly consumed is Naga Konbu (long kelp). To provide consumers with the best product, the Shinzao Company searched globally and sourced Naga Konbu grown along the southeast coast of Hokkaido, Japan. Hokkaido Konbu is highly nutritious and of excellent quality because it grows where warm and cold ocean currents meet.
In Hokkaido, local fisheries associations typically classify konbu based on its length and width. First-grade (highest grade) konbu must be over 105 cm long, over 6 cm wide, and weigh over 35 grams. Leezen's konbu is this premium First-Grade Moto Konbu.
Multiple Layers of Inspection for Your Peace of Mind
Natural konbu in Hokkaido takes two years to grow before it can be harvested. The harvest season runs from July to September. To maintain quality, all harvesting procedures—including the date, time, and specific sea area—must comply with local fisheries association regulations. The subsequent sun-drying and processing steps involve strict multi-stage grading and inspection. Only after being certified by the Hokkaido Fishery Products Association is the konbu cleared for shipment. Upon import to Taiwan, and before being placed on Leezen's shelves, it must pass additional safety tests for heavy metals and radioactive contamination. These multiple layers of inspection ensure consumers can eat with complete peace of mind.
